Ichiro Reaches 3,000 Combined Hits In MLB, Japan
Mariners' All-Star OF Ichiro Suzuki reached 3,000 combined hits in the major leagues and the Japanese League with a first-inning single Tuesday night against the Rangers, as reported by the Associated Press.
Suzuki hit a soft liner to left-center on the game?s first pitch from Luis Mendoza.
The 34-year-old Suzuki has 1,722 hits in 1,224 games during his eight seasons with the Mariners. He had 1,278 hits over 951 games in nine seasons with the Orix Blue Wave of Japan?s Pacific League.
A's Ziegler Breaks 101-Year-Old Record
A's reliever Brad Ziegler recorded six outs Sunday to set an MLB record with 27 scoreless innings to begin his career.
The right-hander gave up two singles in two innings against the Rangers but was otherwise flawless. He struck out three and started an inning-ending 1-6-3 double play in the eighth before giving way to closer Huston Street.
Ziegler broke the previous mark of 25 innings set by Phillies' right-hander George McQuillan in 1907.

Pelfrey, Joyce Named Players Of Week
Mike Pelfrey of the Mets and Matt Joyce of the Tigers were named the MLB Players of the Week in their respective leagues on Monday.
Pelfrey went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 15.0 innings without allowing a walk. The 24-year-old right-hander was tied for second in the National League in innings pitched. The Wichita State product has allowed just one run over his last three starts (22.0 innings) and has not surrendered a walk in his last two starts, tossing 16.0 consecutive scoreless innings.
On Sunday against the Rockies, Pelfrey hurled 8.0 shutout innings with five strikeouts leading the Mets to their ninth straight victory. Pelfrey, who is now 8-4 with a 3.64 ERA on the season, has won six consecutive starts dating back to June 16th at Anaheim. This is the first career weekly award honors for Mike.
Last week, Joyce hit .409 (9-22) with four doubles, four home runs, and six RBI. The 24-year-old rookie posted a 1.136 slugging percentage along with a .409 on-base percentage. He was 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored against Cleveland on July 9th.
During a four-game series against Minnesota from July 10-13, Joyce was 6-for-17 with three home runs, four RBI and four runs scored. The Tampa, Florida native is hitting .266 with nine home runs and 18 RBI in 31 games with the Tigers. This marks the first career weekly award for Joyce.
Jeter Hits 200th Home Run Of Career
Derek Jeter hit the 200th home run of his Major League career on Saturday afternoon against the Blue Jays.
Jeter led off the game with a home run to right field at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, giving the Yankees a 1-0 after being limited to just two hits against Roy Halladay on Friday night.

Jurrjens Named NL Rookie Of Month
Atlanta Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens has been named the June recipient of the National League Rookie of the Month Award presented by Gillette.
In four starts last month, Jurrjens posted a 3-0 record and a 1.63 ERA. Atlanta won all four of the games started by the Curacao native. The 22-year-old did not surrender an earned run in his final three starts in June, spanning 21.2 innings in which he yielded just 14 hits. Overall, the right-hander fanned 18 batters in 27.2 innings, allowing 25 hits, seven walks and just one home run.
In 18 starts this year, Jurrjens is 9-4 with a 3.00 ERA, and he has a 12-5 record and a 3.37 ERA in his first 25 Major League starts, which included seven starts with the Detroit Tigers last season.
Longoria Named AL Rookie Of Month
Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria has been named the June recipient of the American League Rookie of the Month Award presented by Gillette.
In 26 games last month, Longoria hit .300 (30-100) with Major League rookie-highs of eight home runs and 19 RBI. Longoria, the third overall pick in the first round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft from Long Beach State University, scored 19 runs, stroked 11 doubles, drew 13 walks, posted a .650 slugging percentage and a .374 on-base percentage.
Longoria?s month was highlighted by a June 9th game against the Angels in which he had the second multi-homer game of his career, along with a double and four runs scored, in Tampa Bay?s 13-4 win. The 22-year-old compiled four home runs and 12 RBI in a six-game stretch from June 22nd-28th.
The Rays won six of their final seven games in June and closed the month with a 50-32 record (.610), the best mark in Major League Baseball. As of Tuesday night, Longoria held the lead among the five American League candidates for the Monster 2008 All-Star Game Final Vote on MLB.com.
Hardy's Spectacular Week Earns NL Honors
Brewers' shortstop J.J. Hardy was named the NL Player of the Week on Monday, as reported by Yahoo.com.
Hardy had a spectacular week, batting .600 (18-for-30) with six home runs, and 12 RBI. He also had five doubles and eight runs scored.
Orioles' Huff Named AL Player Of The Week
Orioles' DH Aubrey Huff on Monday was named AL Player of the Week, as reported by Yahoo.com.
In six games last week, Huff batted .345 with three home runs and nine RBI's.
